Weight loss is a burning issue among all overweight individuals. However, there is a lot of conflicting as well as confusing advice on this topic. We must know how to make healthy food choices if we want to lead healthier more fulfilling lives.

Common Sense Eating Plan for Weight Loss

There are millions and millions of people around the world who want to lose weight today. There are so many different philosophies of approaching fat loss and so, there is too much confusing and contradictory advice. If you ask any fitness trainer or dietitian or doctor you will probably get different answers on what specific kind of diet and exercise will help you lose fat and gain muscle.

Some dietitians proclaim that dieting or following a healthy eating plan is the best way to lose fat around your body. Some fitness trainers will say that exercise is the best way to burn fat and increase muscle mass and it is better to burn the fatty tissue rather than to starve it slowly.

I myself am a believer in body weight exercises but a healthy diet always goes hand in hand with a proper exercise program. Restrictive dieting or reducing your calorie intake below your daily calorie requirements is a bad mistake. People are misled into thinking that if they consume less calories than the essential required amount then their body will automatically start burning fat to cover up the deficit in energy. Unfortunately for fat loss aspirants the opposite thing happens. Instead of burning fatty tissue for energy our body tends to burn muscle and utilize water for oxidation.

Since muscle is the primary fat burning engine of the body the loss muscle mass is definitely a setback for fat loss goals. If you at all want to follow a healthy eating plan then just use your common sense in following a healthy natural eating plan. All our food should be as natural as organically grown as possible. If organic produce is not available or too expensive then opt for food items which have undergone the least amount of processing and packaging.

We must consume all fruits, vegetables, fresh fruit & vegetable juices, legumes, edible seeds, nuts, legumes, whole grain wheat & cereals, brown rice or wild rice, raw honey, molasses, wild fish and fish oils, brown eggs etc. Starch consumption should be kept minimal because starches are really high glycemic foods (raise blood sugar level quickly) and cause insulin spike. They are meant for times when immediate energy is required and people leading a sedentary lifestyle don’t really need that. Starches should not be mixed with meat, eggs or fish while eating since this will cause an imbalance in the acid-base environment in our stomach.

Whenever you need to snack, you can first drink two glasses of water first and then eat a bowl of salad with nuts etc. Most of the time we confuse our thirst as a hunger pang and tend to eat more. One fundamental rule is to consume a gallon of water every day because water is fat burner in itself. It aids in all metabolic processes and particularly in efficient fat burning for energy.

We must avoid all white sugar, processed grains, packaged food, junk food, cola, soda, alcohol, excess of tea, coffee and cigarette smoke as much as possible. Try to eat home cooked meals as much as possible and avoid eating in food joints. Many dietitians advise that one should eat five to six smaller meals in a day instead of three big meals. This helps balance our sugar levels and checks food craving and storage of calories as extra fat. If it is practically possible for you to follow this plan then you may definitely follow this for better results.
