There is a big number of various diet programs which help to manage weight and lose as much as a person needs. Some of them started decades ago and have millions of followers, the others are very new. Diet.com is one of the online programs which started as a book written by Dr. Robert Kushner and his wife Nancy. Personality Type Diet gained a lot of popularity and just recently grew into an online format.
Diet.com is very different from the usual online programs. According to the author our personality has main impact on the attitude to food and physical activity, this is also the reason why many people fail following some strict diet rules. Dr. Kushner says if a person can find real reasons why he or she cannot follow the diet plan or gives up exercises a few days after they are started, the lifestyle could be changed and the weight loss might finally become a success.
In the beginning the program offers everybody to go through a 57-70-question survey which explains what type of personality you have. It is based on the kinds of food, fears, feelings, preferences and even attitude to exercises and lifestyle in general. In the end the survey gives information on what kind of eating, exercising and coping (emotional) personality one is. The names for eating habits given by Dr. Kushner are really interesting: hearty portioner, fruitless feaster, steady snacker, nighttime nibbler, etc. The same is with exercise personality: all-or-nothing doer, couch champion, rain check athlete; and coping personality: people pleaser, can’t say no pleaser, emotional eater, self scrutinizer.
The determined personality will be the basis for the further diet plan. If a person has purchased a book, Dr. Kushner advises to go to the page which has specific tips for behavior changes and attitudes to aspects of life based on the personality type. With the online program it is even easier: it takes the person exactly to the plan and tips needed. Since the main idea is in finding what is not only healthy, but also best suitable for the participant, the meal plans and exercises will surprise with good ideas.
The plans and recipes offer good nutritious meals full of fruits, vegetables, nuts and soy products, but the fast-food is not completely forgotten. Such things as waffles, diet soda, bacon and crackers are welcome in the sample menus.
There is another advantage of the online program over the book: it allows finding “diet buddies” who have the same personalities and therefore can help each other in the behavior changes and eating plans. The people motivate and support others, talk on forums and meet in real life which is encouraging for many of them.
The Diet.com is an interesting system which has received many positive reviews from experts. Tuft University describes it as one that has “common sense” and “divided up into small, doable steps.” In the end the viewers from the university gave five-out-of-five stars to the Personality Type Diet which is a “highly recommended” rating.
As for the drawbacks of the program, the main one is that the Diet.com is relatively new and has not proven its work with time yet. Although the diet plans include fish and poultry, in some respect it is more based on the vegetarian meals. Red meat is not very welcome and there are no beef recipes in the meal plans. Pork dishes are very limited too.
