It is becoming more and more common that people are exercising a lot but with very little in the way of results. I think we can all admit to being victims of this phenomenon as one point or another, myself included. Truth is that this seems to be a modern day phenomenon with so many people spending 90% of their days sedentary sitting behind a computer.

And even though they may throw in a few runs a week it is simply not enough to keep in shape.

(HealthDay News) — Although the exact cause of colon cancer isn’t understood, scientists have figured out certain factors that increase a person’s risk of developing the disease.

The National Cancer Institute mentions these risk factors for colon cancer:

  • Being 50 or older.
  • Having colorectal polyps — typically non-cancerous growths that develop on the colon’s inner wall.
  • Having other people in your family who have had colorectal cancer, or having had cancer yourself.
  • Having certain genetic abnormalities.
  • Being a smoker.
  • Eating a high-fat diet.
  • Having Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis.

Nutritionists have long been telling us that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and that you should have breakfast like a king, lunch like a commoner and dine like a pauper.

For long the position on breakfast has been that if you are trying to lose weight then you must have breakfast and that you miss breakfast at your own peril.

However there is a counter view that says breakfast is not the most important meal of the day.

We can all safely say that we have struggled with sleep at one point or another in our lives. The difficulty is we all seem to have varying and individual degrees of sleep problems. Maybe you find it difficult to sleep when you have too much on your mind, maybe you wake up and cannot get back to sleep, or maybe you drink too much coffee to get yourself through the day and it stops peaceful, deep sleep.

The point is Insomnia is not an easy term to define because we each have different variations and ways of which it may manifest.

In honor of the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals Im reposting this:

Check out this study that Craig Ballantyne forwarded to me:

Recreational soccer is an effective health-promoting tivity for untrained men Krustrup et al. British Journal of Sports Medicine 2009;43:825-831

36 healthy untrained men were randomized into a soccer group, a running group and a control group.

Training was performed for 1 hour two or three times per week for 12 weeks; at an average heart rate of 82% of HRmax for both training groups (so it was fairly intense)

During the 12 week program, the soccer group improved maximal oxygen uptake (a measure of aerobic fitness) 62% more than the running group.
