My baby is in first grade, but I might imagine that once you send a teen off to college, you worry less about their health. After all, they are almost grown and probably don’t need mama and daddy watching after them. Then again, maybe they do.

Several of the health care reforms that were signed into law six months ago took effect yesterday, September 23rd. Many more Americans will be eligible for insurance and the changes may affect you.

Here’s a summary of the new laws:

  • Preventative procedures, including colonoscopies, mammograms, and immunizations must be covered entirely by insurance companies without co-pay.
  • People joining a new insurance plan may keep the doctors they already have.
  • Insurance companies may not deny coverage to children with pre-existing health conditions.
  • Insurers are now forbidden to drop high-cost customers after finding technical mistakes on applications.

Good night, sleep tight, don’t let the bedbugs bite. I remember hearing this growing up and the thought of bed bugs seemed as old as my grandparents. But, if you’ve been listening to the news, you know that bedbugs are back.

There has been an outbreak of bedbugs in our country, but don’t panic. First of all, bedbugs won’t make you sick, they don’t transmit diseases, and if you have them, it doesn’t mean your home is dirty. They may or may not bit you, but basically are just annoying.
