AquAdvantage salmon is close to being approved as the first genetically engineered (GE) animal to be approved for human consumption by the FDA. Created by the Massachusettes company AquaBounty Technologies, the combines the genes of the Chinook salmon and Pacific salmon, and also includes a rapid growth gene taken from ocean pout. The fish reaches maturity in half the time as wild salmon.

The FDA has not disclosed their timeline on the subject, but reports that the agency has sent its environmental assessment to the White House, indicating that their assessment is complete.

Let me start by saying that if you have not read any of my other blogs you may not know but my husband and I have horrible luck; with the exception of adopting 3 amazing kids and marrying each other that is. In 2004 he was diagnosed with testicular cancer, had the tumor removed and went through 33 days of radiation. In 2005 I was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer, I went through tumor removal, chemo therapy, radiation, prophylactic bilateral mastectomies and many reconstructive surgeries.

THURSDAY, Oct. 13 (HealthDay News) — Human children are more likely than chimpanzees to collaborate when solving a problem, a new study finds.

Researchers compared the responses of 3-year-old children in Germany with semi-free-ranging chimpanzees in a Democratic Republic of Congo sanctuary.

Both the children and the chimps were given a task they could do on their own or with a partner.

A recently aired special on CNN by famous doctor Sanjay Gupta discussed the possibility of using food as medicine. I was intrigued by this idea and thought I would look into the foods and flavor ingredients that have dual purposes mentioned in the special: yogurt and turmeric.

Turmeric is a spice mainly found in and Pakistani dishes often used in making curry with anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and possibly anti-cancer properties.
